The Floor Report | Luis De Mattia Named World Cup Coach for Artistic Figures
A World Champion Coach, Right Here at Skate City Sports
Last week, one of our own coaches was on the floor at one of the biggest stages in the sport. Luis De Mattia, who leads the artistic roller skating program at Skate City Sports, spent September 17 through 20, 2026 coaching with Team USA at the Artistic Figures World Cup, an official World Skate event held at Lynwood Skate Center in Illinois.
If you're not deep in the skating world, here's why that matters. This event is the biggest of the year for compulsory figures skaters, drawing athletes from across the globe to compete in Cadet, Youth, Junior, and Senior divisions. Getting asked to coach there is not a small thing.
"This is an official World Skate event, and it's the most important competition of the year for compulsory figures skaters," Luis told us.
For those who train with him, none of this comes as a surprise. Luis has spent over two decades in competitive and instructional skating, with a career that includes two World Championship titles in Senior compulsory figures (2014 and 2015), gold medals at the German and Italian Cups, and nine South American Championship titles. He's coached elite skaters and national teams across South America and Europe, and his focus has always been compulsory figures and technical artistry, the exact discipline this event is built around.
Now that same experience is what he brings to Skate City Sports every week, whether he's working with a beginner just learning to hold an edge or a competitor getting ready for their next event.
